This policy explains what Rocket Design Lab ("we," "us," or "our") collects when you use our mobile app (currently distributed as a beta under the name "RDL Beta"), our web app at rocketdesignlab.com/app/ and rocketdesignlab.com/beta/, and rocketdesignlab.com itself (together, the "Service"), how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Account information. Creating an account requires an email address and password. Your password is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Google Firebase Authentication) — we never see or store it ourselves.
Profile information. We collect your display name and city, which are required to finish setting up an account. Your birth date, certifications, and club memberships are optional and only collected if you choose to add them in Settings. We also ask how you heard about us.
Content you create. Rocket designs, launches, flight records, inventory items, and notes you enter are stored in your account so they sync across your devices and stay available offline.
Photos and files. Photos you attach to a rocket or inventory item, screenshots you include with a bug report, and design files (.rkt/.ork/.rdl) you transfer between the app and a browser are stored in your account.
Location information. If you enter a launch site as a place name, we look up its approximate coordinates to fetch weather for it. If you use "Capture Pad GPS," we store the precise coordinates you captured. Either way, this location is attached to the launch record you created it for, not tracked continuously or in the background.
Purchase information. If you subscribe to Pro, your purchase is handled directly by Apple, Google, or our payment processor — we receive only your subscription status (active, canceled, expired), never your card number.
Bug reports and feedback. If you submit a bug report or feedback, we collect what you write, any screenshot you attach, and basic technical details about your device to help us fix the problem.
Beta program applications. If you apply for our beta program, we collect what you submit on the application: your name, email, rocketry experience, the motors you fly, and the devices you'd test on.
Automatically collected information. Like most online services, our servers automatically log basic technical information — such as IP address and request timestamps — for security and troubleshooting. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the app.
How we use your information
- To provide the Service — sync your designs and flight data across your devices, keep your account secure, and verify your email address.
- To send account-related email — verification codes, password resets, and (if you're a beta applicant) invitations.
- To process and manage your Pro subscription.
- To respond to bug reports, support requests, and beta applications.
- To maintain the security of the Service and prevent abuse.
- To improve the shared kit database and community features — see "Community-visible content" below.
How your information is shared
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Service providers. We use other companies to run parts of the Service on our behalf. Each only receives what it needs to do its job:
- Google Firebase — account authentication, our database, file storage, and hosting.
- Resend — delivers our transactional email (verification codes, invitations).
- RevenueCat, and Apple, Google, or Stripe — process and manage Pro subscriptions.
- Open-Meteo — provides weather forecasts and historical/climate data for the launch location you enter.
- ThrustCurve.org — provides results when you search our motor database; searches go to their public API and aren't linked to your account by us.
Community-visible content. If you add a new rocket kit to our shared kit database, or submit a correction to one, that kit's specifications (dimensions, weight, compatible motors, and similar details) may be shown to other users. They describe the kit, not you — your name, email address, and other account information are never included. We may also compute aggregate, de-identified statistics from many users' data (for example, popular motor choices for a given kit) and show those to the community once enough people have contributed that no individual's data is identifiable.
Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Rocket Design Lab, our users, or others.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account content for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us at support@rocketdesignlab.com from the address on your account. When you do, we delete your stored designs, launches, inventory, and flight records, your uploaded photos and files, and your account credentials.
Two things aren't tied to your account and remain after deletion: bug reports you've submitted (other testers or our own team may still be relying on the fix they describe), and de-identified aggregate statistics or kit corrections you contributed to the community database, since neither was ever traceable back to you.
Data security
Information sent between your device and our servers is encrypted in transit. Your account content is protected by database security rules that restrict every user's data to that user's own account — enforced on our servers, not just in the app.
Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. Creating an account requires a valid email address. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at support@rocketdesignlab.com and we'll delete it.
Your choices
- Edit or remove your optional profile details (birth date, certifications, clubs) any time in Settings.
- Request a copy of your data, or request deletion of your account, by emailing support@rocketdesignlab.com.
- Contact us to opt out of any non-essential email.
International users
Our servers and databases run on Google Cloud infrastructure located in the United States. If you're using the Service from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
